MRL believes having mutually beneficial relationships with local communities is integral to the business vision and is focussed on achieving this goal through continuous, open and honest communications. This belief is backed by company programs and initiatives implemented at its sites.

As a key player in the resources industry, MRL knows it can make a positive difference to the communities in which it operates and is committed to achieving this.

Sponsorship Program: 2013 - 2016

MRL is in the second year of a three year partnership program which began in 2013 in support of community based programs and organisations, and is pleased to report the following updates:

Sponsorship of Southern Cross Motorcycle Club Two Day Enduro

MRL was a proud major sponsor, supplying all of the food for the Southern Cross Motorcycle Club 2015 Two Day Enduro.

The event was held on 19 and 20 of September 2015 and attracted 92 entries (riders) and over 100 spectators, staff and helpers.

Overall, it was a very good and enjoyable weekend.

“The donation of food and goods from MRL was much appreciated,” said Paul Della Bosca.

“The donated food we received was of top quality and went down well with the riders and spectators over the weekend event - appreciation and thankyou again to MRL Ltd for the support”.

Sponsorship of Bowls Competition

MRL was pleased be the major sponsor of the Yilgarn Bowling Club’s Annual Men’s 2-Day Bowling Carnival on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 January 2016.

Rockingham Police & Community Youth Centres (PCYC)

PCYC CEO, Mr John Gillespie, has confirmed PCYC are working on the design of their new training workshops and with MRL’s continued support hopes to have these commenced by the end of this year.

In 2015, PCYC ran a pilot program, ‘Dare 2 Care,’ which follows on from the previous My Steps To Success program. The programs provide an introduction to manual tasks, hand and power tool use and care, building and construction, good nutrition, easy cook meals on a budget, budgeting, sport and recreation. Successful participants are provided with a formal qualification of Certificate I in Leadership.

Peel Region Secondary Schools

A community partnership exists between MRL and Peel district secondary schools, through offering paid scholarships and work experience. By achieving common goals and working together, the partnership leverages our strengths, knowledge and resources to benefit both the business and the community.

MRL encourages employees to become mentors for students. This creates benefits in two ways: our employees feel great about helping inspire students and students benefit by learning additional skills and work experience.

Starlight Foundation

As a major sponsor of the Starlight Wish Granting Program in Western Australia, MRL also grants wishes on behalf of the Starlight Foundation.  Previously, the Company has teamed up with Northern Star Resources to host a wish recipient at their gold mine and taking the whole family on a Pilbara adventure in support of Cystic Fibrosis and the Starlight Foundation.

Youth Focus

MRL continues to support Youth Focus in their operations to overcome the issues associated with suicide, depression and self-harm.

This year, MRL teamed up with Youth Focus and FIFO Families at the City to Surf in support of the Activ Foundation.

FIFO Families Association

FIFO Families continues to grow with the support of MRL and our fly-in fly-out employee community. MRL will roll out a number of site based workshops this year, to support staff in making the most out of the FIFO lifestyle.

Princess Margaret Hospital for Children

MRL is in the second year of its partnership with the Princess Margaret Hospital and continues to support the Regional Assistance Fund, which last year assisted hundreds of families in out of pocket expenses incurred when travelling to Perth from remote areas.

Salvation Army - Kwinana Men’s Shed

Providing operational funding for the Salvation Army's Kwinana Men's Shed Program, ensures the Salvation Army's presence remains in the community, delivering real services, to real people, in ways that meet their real needs. This program is pivotal in the Rockingham and Kwinana community, encouraging men to build new relationships and explore individual worth, confidence and a healthy, positive lifestyle. The Program provides support through a variety of social activities, health seminars, walking groups and woodwork activities.

UWA Aspire Program - Kimberley Camp

In 2015, the Aspire program has been able to expand to the Kimberly region, where more than 50 students from six high schools took part in a range of activities to help inspire them to a higher education.

Enrolment data confirms that UWA's Aspire Program is already achieving higher transfer rates to university.

Parkerville Children and Youth Care

The George Jones Child Advocacy Centre (GJCAC) in Perth remains Australia’s first and only fully dedicated Child Advocacy Centre, despite there now being more than 1000 established internationally. No operational funding for the Centre is currently provided by State or Federal Government agencies and so Parkerville relies heavily on the generosity of individual and corporate partners MRL to ensure the Centre continues to deliver its services to Western Australian families in need. Plans are underway for a Northern GJCAC to compliment the Southern operations.

Make-A-Wish Foundation

MRL continues to be the biggest WA supporter for Make-A-Wish Foundation, enabling wish granting to reach more West Australian kids and families throughout the year.

Cerebral Palsy Foundation

The Cerebral Palsy Foundation has now successfully completed the construction and opening of their new CP Tech Unit. A plaque was kindly erected in the ‘Rainbow Waiting Room’ in recognition of MRL’s support.
