A single tree just outside the Wheatbelt town of Mukinbudin was painted blue in tribute to a young man who was lost to suicide.
Over time, this blue tree has come to symbolise the conversation about mental health – encouraging people to speak up when they are battling mental health concerns.

Tuesday 10 September is World Suicide Prevention Day and the Blue Tree Project aims to spread the message that “it’s ok to not be ok” as far and wide as possible.
To support the Blue Tree Project and what it represents – and to spark mental health conversations between colleagues, family and friends – a group of MRL staff have painted their own blue tree near the entrance to the Wodgina mine site.
This is the first tree to be painted north of Geraldton, adding the count of 250 blue trees that are now dotted throughout the vast WA landscape.
