Our Mt Marion operation is in a very dry area and access to water is a risk that we have to manage.
During FY18, we looked at water conservation measures and invested in recovering water from the waste product produced in the mining process. We separate out the coarse product from the fines product, which allows us to dry-stack it. By dry-stacking the coarse product we are able to undertake a process to recover the water, rather than all the waste product going into tailings dams.
The recovered water is recycled and integrated into our water supply for the mine.
During the year, the water saved as a result of dry stacking the coarse fines was approximately 220 million litres.
