We were honoured to host mental health ambassador, retired Australian mixed martial artist and Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter, Soa “the Hulk” Palelei, at our Wodgina site recently.
Soa is a passionate advocate for mental health and shared his personal story with the team in presentations across all departments. Soa provided profound insight into his experiences in dealing with his own mental health struggles which was a lesson in asking for help, resilience, overcoming adversity and prioritising your mental well being. It went a long way in helping break down the stigma that can be associated with mental health issues, especially within the FIFO industry.
As part of his presentations, Soa discussed the importance of speaking up about your mental health and looking out for your mates.
Soa reminded our team that “it ain’t weak to speak” in times when you may be feeling overwhelmed, stressed or otherwise not okay and to touch base with someone who you believe may be struggling.
During his presentations, Soa also emphasised the importance of regular physical activity to maintain a healthy body and a healthy mind, so we were lucky enough to have him assist in the launch of our Health & Wellbeing team’s 8-week Boot Camp Challenge! The inaugural challenge is the first of many and we had fantastic turnout from the Wodgina team.
