As part of a Farm-In and Joint-Venture agreement (JV) with Brockman Mining Limited, Mineral Resources (MRL) has earned a 50% interest in the Marillana and Ophthalmia iron ore projects.
Both projects are located within Western Australia’s Pilbara region, north of the township of Newman, with MRL set to produce and deliver iron ore product to China on a lowest-quartile cost basis globally.
These activities support MRL’s ongoing commitment to deliver high-quality, low-cost mining, mining construction and mining infrastructure services.
Building success with our partners
Under the agreement, MRL will develop the Marillana Project and Ophthalmia Project into an iron ore mining hub capable of producing a minimum of 25Mtpa of final product for export.
MRL, under the agreement with the Joint Venturers, will build and operate non-processing infrastructure at Marillana Project as well as build, own and operate a crushing plant at Ophthalmia Project.
Innovation and productivity of transport
The agreement will also see MRL manage the planning, construction and operational logistics and systems to transport ore from mines to the port stockyard at Port Hedland.
This includes a berth at a dedicated location in Port Hedland (subject to approvals from the Western Australian Government) – with MRL submitting market-based estimates for project capital and operating costs, including the logistics services cost for the transporting ore from mines to ships.
