Yandeyarra Community Visit

We recently visited the Yandeyarra community to speak with teachers and students of the school about employment and other opportunities with us. The Community School caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 12 and provides an important connection for members of the Community.

Yandeyarra is a remote Aboriginal community located in the Pilbara region about 140km south of Port Hedland and is the closest community to our Wodgina mine site. Yandeyarra sits on the bank of the Yule River, which is prone to flooding in the wet season. There is no fuel station or shop in Yandeyarra, so residents and visitors need to be entirely self-sufficient.

Human Resources Manager, Juanita Grillmeier and Maintenance Manager – Wodgina, John Greasley, spoke to members of the community about how we can better reach and engage with the community now and into the future. They also provided an insight to their careers in the resources sector and the options for a long and varied career with Mineral Resources.

During the visit, Mineral Resource’s PMI team who provide camp and catering services at Wodgina prepared a barbecue for the community.
