A warm welcome to Noongar land

Smoking ceremony at 20 Walters Drive

Our new HQ is located in Osborne Park, a place where the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation have walked, lived and cared for country and each other for over three thousand generations.

This week we paid our respects to the Whadjuk Noongar people and were warmly welcomed to our new HQ with a Smoking Ceremony performed by Jason Barrow and a Welcome to Country by Professor Colleen Hayward AM.

It was a powerful way to symbolise a fresh start and connect us to our new home while acknowledging how important trusted and respectful relationships with Traditional Owners are to our mining operations.

In further fostering these relationships, MinRes recently introduced our first ever Reconciliation Action Plan, signed a 20+ year agreement with Thalanyji for the Onslow Iron Resort Style village, and are now featuring collaborative Indigenous artworks throughout the new building.

To wrap up the Welcome Ceremony formalities, Managing Director Chris Ellison reflected on the journey MinRes has been on over the past few years.

He acknowledged all the people who have been involved in creating Walters Drive – a space that not only aims to achieve Platinum WELL certification which has only accomplished by a handful of buildings globally – but one that sets a new standard for employee wellbeing. Every aspect of Walters Drive has been designed with this in mind.

He encouraged employees to make full use of the facilities, and noted that we would soon be welcoming our site workforce and families to enjoy the facilities too.

More broadly, Walters Drive will be the benchmark for how we develop workplaces across all Mineral Resources operations, with the industry’s first resort style camps set for our Onslow Iron (Ashburton) project.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Walters Drive welcome event and for making our transition to the new building so smooth!
