About Lifeline WA
Lifeline WA provides access to 24-hour support and suicide prevention services for Western Australians experiencing personal crisis.
The organisation’s flagship service is delivered through its crisis support number – 13 11 14 – available every day of the year from anywhere in Australia. Whether it’s the middle of the night or during a moment of overwhelming stress, support is never far away.
Lifeline WA’s mission is to prevent suicide, be a haven for people in crisis and reduce stigma surrounding mental health challenges. Every interaction with Lifeline WA has the potential to save a life and strengthen community wellbeing.
“I’ve seen increased awareness and openness to talk about mental health issues and an increasing number of people reaching out for help,” said Lifeline WA Chief Executive Officer Lorna MacGregor.
“However, suicide does remain one of the biggest killers of Australians.”
Digital Crisis Service
In today’s connected world, Lifeline WA recognises not everyone is comfortable or able to pick up the phone. That’s why they’ve expanded their life-saving services digitally with text and online chat – offering discreet, accessible and immediate help to those who prefer to communicate in writing.
Delivered by specially trained volunteers who provide the same compassionate, non-judgmental support as the phone service, they’ve been able to expand their support services.
“We found there is a cohort of people we weren’t previously supporting,” Lorna added.
“Our digital service supports a lot of young people, alongside those for whom English is their second language.”
MinRes’ partnership
Since 2020, Mineral Resources (MinRes) has partnered with Lifeline WA to help expand and strengthen their vital work. This commitment is firmly embedded in MinRes’ operations, exemplified by the NextGen II crusher at Mt Whaleback, painted in Lifeline WA’s signature blue and proudly displaying their logo – a visible reminder to staff that help is always available. MinRes’ backing for Lifeline WA is reinforced by the enthusiasm of staff who participate in The Push-Up Challenge to raise funds and undertake two-day Mental Health First Aid training.
As demand for digital support continues to grow, MinRes renewed its partnership in 2023 to enable Lifeline WA to train new Digital Crisis Supporters, ensuring more people across the state can access timely, personalised assistance when they need it most.
MinRes Head of Mental Health Chris Harris is a fierce advocate for accessible support and commends Lifeline WA’s work.
“At MinRes, we recognise mental health is just as important as physical health and access to the right support at the right time can be life-changing,” he said.
“Our partnership with Lifeline WA enables more trained volunteers to be there for Western Australians in their most vulnerable moments.
“We’re proud to play our role to help deliver these vital digital services to more people, no matter where they live or the challenges they face.”
