Map of Bald Hill Operations

Overview

Bald Hill was originally mined for tantalum, before commencing spodumene production in 2019. MinRes acquired Bald Hill in November 2023 and operated it for 12 months before placing it on care and maintenance due to unfavourable market conditions.

In May 2026, MinRes announced it will be restarting operations at Bald Hill.

MinRes manages all aspects, from exploration through to mining and processing. The major infrastructure on site includes:

  • open pit mine, waste dumps, Run of Mine (ROM) pad and tailings storage facility
  • crushing and processing plant via Dense Media Separation (DMS) concentrator
  • workshops, offices, diesel power generation and bore fields
  • FIFO camp accommodation that can house up to 300 people.

Mining

Production includes open pit methods using the conventional drill, blast, load and haul mining cycle.

Mined ore is stockpiled on a ROM pad prior to crushing and waste rock is delivered to a waste rock dump.

Processing

Bald Hill features a processing plant with an annual production capacity of approximately 165,000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate at a grade of 5.1% Li2O.

The processing plant comprises of two main areas:

  • crushing plant – a new plant was commissioned in 2024
  • DMS and spirals plant – original plant constructed in 2018, put into care and maintenance in 2019 and restarted again in 2022.

Spodumene produced at Bald Hill is transported by road to the Port of Esperance for export to global markets.
