North Pilbara Football League
Kicking goals for community spirit in the Pilbara.

About the North Pilbara Football League
The North Pilbara Football League (NPFL) is more than a sporting competition – it’s a cornerstone of the community uniting towns and people across the Pilbara through a shared love of Australian Rules football.
Connecting six clubs – the Dampier Sharks, Karratha Kats, Karratha Falcons, Port Hedland Rovers, South Hedland Swans and Wickham Wolves – the NPFL has been a focal point in the region since its establishment in 1977.
The League provides players and families with the opportunity for connection, competition and camaraderie across the expansive Pilbara region.
Growth of the league
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of a passionate team of committee members and volunteers, the NPFL continues to thrive.
“Football brings people together; they get involved at all ages,” said NPFL Vice President Trevor Brodie.
“The league keeps growing and the introduction of the women’s league has been a bonus for all clubs. It gets everyone moving and the support is getting bigger by the year.
With many people drawn to the Pilbara for work, the League plays a vital role in fostering connections outside of the workplace.
“Work is the main reason why people come to this area, but they also need an outlet – a way to get out there and meet other people,” Trevor explained.
“The League builds a really strong community.”
MinRes’ partnership
Mineral Resources (MinRes) joined as the NPFL’s major sponsor in 2022, with our contribution supporting the delivery of the League – including the reserves and women’s seasons – and providing benefits to member football clubs.
MinRes Manager Communities and Stakeholder Engagement Daniel Barker highlighted the partnership’s importance.
“MinRes operates across the Pilbara and we recognise how isolated some of these communities are, so supporting an organisation like NPFL to build stronger, healthier and more connected communities in the region is important to us,” he said.
“Sport plays such a pivotal role in local communities and NPFL connects teams from Dampier, Karratha, Hedland and Wickham – fostering a shared sense of belonging, friendly competition and ensuring sport remains accessible for everyone.”
