Every step a celebration for Healthy Strides Move-A-Thon

Children of all abilities have celebrated the joy of movement – whether on foot, using crutches, with a walker or in a wheelchair – at the 2026 Healthy Strides Foundation Move-A-Thon fundraiser for Telethon, proudly supported by Mineral Resources (MinRes).

The 400-strong start line at Elizabeth Baillie Park in East Victoria Park included children with neurological conditions and injuries who got moving in a fun and inclusive environment.

MinRes backed the event for a third year, donating $5,000 toward the fundraising total of $47,000, along with free cookies and 3D-printed commemorative bracelets, as well as a team of volunteers to cheer on participants.

MinRes Director People Andrea Chapman said the business was committed to supporting organisations making a real difference to the lives of Western Australians.

“It was inspiring to see so many children getting involved in the Move-A-Thon and our volunteers were delighted to be on the sidelines cheering on every participant,” Andrea said.

“What makes this event so special is that these kids are also giving back, raising vital funds for Telethon while showing us what inclusion looks like – children of all abilities getting active and celebrating every step together.”

Many of the children who took part are undergoing therapy at Healthy Strides Foundation, an East Victoria Park-based not-for-profit that uses cutting-edge rehabilitation technology to help children improve their mobility.

They included four-year-old Hannah Davis, who lives with cerebral palsy.

Last year, Hannah completed a program at Healthy Strides using ZeroG 3D – a body weight support system installed with the backing of Telethon and MinRes.

By the end of the program, Hannah had taken her first independent steps.

Now, six months on, she’s walking independently inside the family home and can walk up to one kilometre with one hand held.

“Healthy Strides has had an incredibly positive impact on Hannah’s life. The intensive programs have played a major role in her progress, particularly in developing her walking mobility,” Hannah's mum Sarah Davis said.

Nazeem Fahmi, a 2024 Little Telethon Star who lives with cerebral palsy, started at Healthy Strides in 2019. His progress has exceeded all expectations and he’s now walking with crutches at home.

“The programs at Healthy Strides have allowed Nazeem to build the confidence to push himself to capabilities that was never expected," mum Noraishah said.

“This is Nazeem’s third Move-A-Thon and he just loves walking with all the friends and families who have encouraged and supported him all these years.”

Ethan Carlson took part in his first Move-A-Thon in 2026, having recently completed a six-week program on the ZeroG.

The intensive therapy has given the 16-year-old, who lives with cerebral palsy, renewed confidence to strive for his mobility goals.

Healthy Strides Founder Dayna Pool said the Move-A-Thon is about celebrating every child, no matter how they move.

"Whether they are walking, rolling or using a frame, they are all champions,” Dana said.

“Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at Healthy Strides, and events like this give our kids the chance to take part in a community event without feeling like they are different.

"We are so grateful to MinRes and Telethon for their ongoing support, which helps us continue to provide life-changing rehabilitation therapy for WA children.”
