Foodbank WA
Delivering nutrition education in classrooms across the state.

About Foodbank WA
Foodbank WA is the state's largest food relief organisation working to feed, educate and advocate for those experiencing food stress.
With many households struggling to put regular meals on the table, Foodbank WA is helping address immediate needs and long-term food security through practical education and support.
“Over one third of households are struggling to provide meals three times a day,” said Foodbank WA Chief Executive Officer Kate O’Hara.
“Too many households are skipping meals regularly. That is food stress and that's what Foodbank WA wants to see end.”
nom! Schools program
One of the ways Foodbank WA is helping to educate people about nutrition is through nom! Schools – a hands-on nutrition education and cooking program delivered in schools across WA.
Led by qualified nutritionists, the program gives students the chance to learn about healthy eating through fun, practical sessions in the classroom.
Participants work together at cooking stations to prepare simple, nutritious meals, building confidence and important life skills along the way.
“It’s an hour and a half session and we bring in everything,” Kate explained.
“There’s cooking stations for students to work together to make all sorts of yummy things and they can smell it and see themselves producing a proper meal.”
Students then have the opportunity to sit down and eat together, enjoying a little taste of everything.
“It's about taking the little seed that we start with one child, into the households and encouraging them to go on and keep cooking and keep making meals for themselves and their loved ones,” Kate said.
MinRes’ partnership
Mineral Resources (MinRes) proudly co-funds delivery of the nom! Schools program in communities across WA.
Through this partnership, MinRes is helping Foodbank WA equip more young people with the knowledge and confidence to make healthy food choices and share those skills at home.
MinRes Manager Partnerships Kasey Sandstrom said the relationship with Foodbank WA reflected the importance of practical programs that create lasting benefits for families and communities.
“The nom! Schools program is giving students skills they can take beyond the classroom and into their homes,” Kasey said.
“It's helping young people build confidence around healthy eating and cooking, which is making a real difference across the state.”
