About Ronald McDonald House WA
Ronald McDonald House WA is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital support programs for families with ill or injured children.
Through its accommodation facilities and services that support family wellbeing, Ronald McDonald House WA strives to keep families together when life is turned upside down due to a child’s illness.
“When you stay at a Ronald McDonald House, it’s not just a bed and a place to put your head down – it's a full set of services,” said Ronald McDonald House WA Chief Executive Officer Peter King ASM.
“It’s everything from the meals, the social support, the networks you create with other families going through the same experience.
"The heart of every home is the kitchen and dining area and there's no shortage of smiles and energy when kids and families eat together," he added.
"One of the standout aspects of Ronald McDonald House WA is it’s the only House in Australia to offer a home-cooked meal for families every night of the year."
Peter said the last thing parents want to do when after an exhausting experience is work out what they're going to cook for dinner.
MinRes’ partnership
Since 2015, Mineral Resources (MinRes) has employed two chefs to prepare dinner for families staying across the three Houses.
MinRes’ support goes beyond a financial commitment, with MinRes chefs Tommy and Zi taking full responsibility for running the kitchen.
This includes planning menus, ordering supplies and preparing and serving dinner - all backed by MinRes’ expertise and guidance in food safety standards, regulations and best practice - allowing Ronald McDonald House WA to focus on supporting families during their time of need.
MinRes GM Food Services Benny Suwarno said the company recognises the importance of comfort and connection when families need it most.
“At MinRes, we are one of the only companies in the mining industry that directly employs our own team of professional chefs because we believe in providing our workforce with the highest quality food," Benny said.
“Just as we prioritise the health and wellbeing of our people, we want to extend that same care to WA families going through some of the toughest times in their lives."
Benny said taking one daily task off their plate can help make hard times a little bit easier.
“What makes this partnership even more special is our employees getting involved in the Ronald McDonald House WA’s Home for Dinner cooking program," he added.
"It’s incredibly humbling to see our workforce in the kitchen, supporting these families in their time of need.”
MinRes employees further demonstrate their support for Ronald McDonald House WA by taking part in the annual Up All Night fundraising event – a 21km or 42km overnight walk.
In 2025, a team of MinRes employees, friends and family raised more than $40,000.
