Our approach
Our dedicated team oversees a wide range of health services to manage health risk across our operations and ensure compliance with statutory requirements. We employ a holistic approach with skilled health professionals overseeing hygiene and health practices, and injury management.
Our health services include the provision of medical services, the management of health exposures in the workplace, injury prevention and injury management.
MinRes has a dedicated Occupational Health Centre specialising in pre-employment medicals and periodic health monitoring staffed by certified doctors, nurses, and exercise physiologists. The Centre supports long-term health outcomes of our employees while meeting regulatory requirements.
Our pre-employment medical process, which includes physical and mental health assessment, drug and alcohol screening, audiometric testing, lung function testing and musculoskeletal risk, ensures that all prospective staff are suited to the physical and mental demands of their prospective job position. This approach supports long-term health outcomes and minimises the risk of work-related injuries and absenteeism.
Our General Practice (GP) Centre exemplifies our commitment to the holistic health of our people. Unique within the mining industry, this centre features state-of-the-art amenities designed to meet employees’ everyday health needs. Our devoted team of general practitioners works in closely with our registered nurse, ensuring that high-quality medical care is easily accessible in the workplace.
The GP Centre provides:
- On-the-day appointments: swift access to healthcare and GP services for everyday concerns.
- Prescriptions and vaccinations: easy access to medications and immunisation services.
- Skin checks and minor procedures: convenient in-house services including skin checks for suspicious moles and minor procedures such as stitching small cuts.
- Tests and diagnostics: effortless arrangements for essential investigations including blood tests, MRI scans, and X-rays.
- Specialist referrals: smooth access to specialist consultation when necessary, such as referrals to cardiologists for heart concerns or orthopaedic specialists for bone and joint issues.
- Chronic disease management: personalised plans to effectively manage chronic health conditions which include conditions such as diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure and other long-term illnesses.
- Preventative health advice: expert guidance for preventative health care reducing potential health risks before they develop.
MinRes actively support the recovery and rehabilitation of our workforce through structured, evidence-based practices that prioritises early intervention, personalised return-to-work plans and ongoing support. Our goal is to minimise the impact of workplace injuries and ensure that our people feel safe, supported and empowered throughout their recovery journey.
In FY25, MinRes supported over 300 injured employees with access to treatment and meaningful return-to-work opportunities. Our program was awarded the Excellence in Workers Compensation and Injury Management by the Work Health and Safety Foundation.
MinRes is committed to continuously enhancing our occupational health and hygiene risk management process to ensure that effective exposure controls are implemented to protect the health of our employees. We identify, assess and measure health hazards across all operations and develop comprehensive exposure risk profiles as outlined in the exposure risk management framework.
In FY25 the MinRes Occupational Hygiene team implemented a range of initiatives which are essential for implementing effective controls to prevent occupational illnesses and ensure a safe working environment:
- Developed a baseline monitoring program for the Onslow operations.
- Developed exposure risk profiles across all operations to establish the potential exposure levels and health impact of identified hazards.
- Streamlined the radiation management process at the lithium operations.
- Implemented exposure reduction plans across operations to ensure, where practicable, operations are implementing effective engineering controls to eliminate or significantly reduce exposure risks to protect the workforce’s health.
- Educating and training the workforce on health hazards through online learning modules and face-to-face interactions on site, including the correct selection and use of respiratory protection and hearing protection.
- Implementation of real-time airborne contaminants monitoring technology within the Mine Air Quality Inspections across all operations.
Our strategic, human-centred approach focuses on supportive leadership, proactive education and empowering individuals to prioritise their health.
Our dedicated On-site Health and Injury Prevention team integrates health management into the employee experience, fostering a proactive, inclusive and people-centred environment. Our team are committed to educating and empowering employees to make healthier lifestyle choices through a range of targeted initiatives:
- Delivering ongoing health promotion and awareness campaigns via annual calendars, weekly newsletters, toolbox sessions, and social media to engage and inform the workforce.
- Providing early intervention and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, with on-site health management and tailored support for return to work and rehabilitation.
- Undertaking screening for key health indicators, including blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, body composition, and flexibility to support early identification of health issues.
- Assessing, delivering, and reviewing gym-based exercise programmes, group fitness classes, one-on-one training, and fitness challenges to encourage physical activity and improve overall health.
- Supporting employees and their families to access professional healthcare services, including general practitioner reviews, preventive screenings, and counselling.
- Promoting education around disease prevention, healthy lifestyle choices, and the importance of psychological health, through interactive sessions and community engagement.
As part of our commitment to sustained employee health management, MinRes piloted the Work Conditioning Program. This initiative is designed to help employees meet the physical demands of their roles safely. It delivers targeted exercise and rehabilitation programs, health and lifestyle education and on-site assessments tailored to individual health needs.
