Celebrating the hundredth candidate to take the wheel

Published on 7 June 2024

Mineral Resources (MinRes) MC Driver Training program continues to be a roaring success, with the 100th candidate participating in the initiative.

The innovative program commenced in October 2023 and upskills people with an existing multi combination (MC) truck license with the skills and knowledge to drive 330-tonne quad road trains.

The program boasts a 93% retention rate, with graduates placed at MinRes and client sites across the Pilbara and Goldfields regions.

Hundredth participant Kelly Mottan said it’s a dream come true to have the opportunity to upskill and drive 330 tonne payloads.

“I’ve previously worked in the mining and logistics industry and after driving dump trucks I knew the next thing I wanted to do is drive quad road trains,” Kelly said.

“I saw the job advertised and I knew it was a company I wanted to work for with their innovative approach and investment in resort-style accommodation.”

“It’s great to see women out there breaking down the barriers. For anyone considering it, I would say go for it – you have everything in front of you.”

The program was introduced to meet MinRes’ huge demand for heavy haulage truck drivers across Western Australia and northern Queensland.

The program is tailored to the individual’s experience, with training including vehicle pre-start inspections, daily safety checks, driving on the haul road, operating the side tipper trailers, radio communications and much more.

MC drivers are able to progress to a fully-fledged MC driver position within six months of commencing the program.

The MC Driver Training program has a monthly intake. To apply, visit the MinRes Careers page.
