Testament to MinRes’ speed to market, the milestone was achieved just three months after ground was broken at the site in December 2025, thanks to the efficient work of the company’s in-house Engineering and Construction team.
CSI Mining Services – a wholly owned subsidiary of MinRes – has now commenced mining, processing and haulage activities at the site.
Lamb Creek will be an open pit mine with a capacity of 7.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) and is expected to extend the Pilbara Hub’s current production profile by over five years, with an improved cost profile.
The operation is strategically located just 50km from MinRes’ Iron Valley operation, with product from both sites to be blended and hauled to Utah Point for export through the Port of Port Hedland.
MinRes Executive General Manager Iron Ore and Asset Management Group Joe Brown said it was another milestone for the company’s iron ore division.
“Safely achieving first ore on ship in such a short time since breaking ground is a remarkable feat and demonstrates MinRes’ significant in-house capability to bring projects to life quickly,” Joe said.
“I want to thank everyone who brought Lamb Creek to life – from the early days of approvals and planning to construction and now mining, processing and shipping the ore.
“Importantly, I’d like to acknowledge the Banjima People, the Traditional Owners of the lands where Lamb Creek sits. We've had early and ongoing consultation that has fostered a strong and collaborative relationship.”
Lamb Creek’s development also involves the winding-down of the current Wonmunna iron ore operation, with all Wonmunna-based staff set to transfer to Lamb Creek and no impact to jobs anticipated.
MinRes acquired Wonmunna from the Australian Aboriginal Mining Corporation in FY21 as an undeveloped project, delivering first ore just five months after construction began.
In the time since, MinRes has developed the operation, mining nine pits and exporting more than 26 million tonnes (Mt).
The Pilbara Hub has production guidance of 9-10Mtpa for FY26.
