Whether he's coaching football or leading crews at Mineral Resources’ (MinRes) Onslow Iron project, Robbie knows the value of having the right people in the right place.
“Culture matters and I place a high value on that – I’m a team player and I want my people to jump on board,” Robbie said.
"We can’t deliver safe and productive outcomes unless everyone is working together. The team on site has strong buy-in and that makes a real difference.
“The people recruited here have been a good fit for the operation. Everyone is working toward the same outcome, which helps us perform well.”
Usually in the site office before the sunrise, Robbie ensures his team is prepared for the pre-start meeting, reviews the previous 12 hours, identifies any risks and sets the plan for the day ahead
Robbie’s role is central to CSI’s operations at the Ken’s Bore mine site, which includes industry-leading NextGen modular crushers and an integrated stockyard and truck load out facility.
A recent development on site has been the incorporation of ore from the recently-developed Upper Cane deposit – 16km from the central Ken’s Bore crushing and processing facility – where ore is direct tipped into one of three crushing plants.
Robbie hails from Northampton, located 50km north of Geraldton in Western Australia’s Mid-West region – and joined CSI in 2010 spending time at MinRes and client sites, including the last two years at Onslow Iron.
“It’s been very rewarding coming here – it’s the largest project I’ve worked on, and it is for a lot of the staff here,” Robbie said.
“It has come a long way, and we’ve achieved a lot of great success here and everyday we improve on that success.”
Among the technical day-to-day tasks, Robbie remains steadfast that his favourite part of the job is being a leader.
“It’s about the rewards of a safe, productive day, making our targets at the end of the month and it’s all about a sense of achievement,” he said.
“To see the trucks rolling through and the tonnes going to the port and the ships getting loaded, it’s all quite rewarding.”
As Onslow Iron continues operating at full capacity, Robbie remains focused on safe production and supporting the team to meet the project's goals and supporting the company’s long term success.
