Dandelions WA

Promoting dignity, health, acceptance and opportunity.

About Dandelions WA

Dandelions WA exists to serve a simple yet powerful purpose: to provide what is needed to promote dignity, health, acceptance and opportunity.

Whether it’s through thoughtfully crafted Kindness Kits – tailored with essential toiletries, clothing and extras – or its Back-to-School campaign, Dandelions WA stands as a beacon of hope for the Western Australian community.

Dandelions WA Co-Founder and President Vicky Young said the Back-to-School campaign provided backpacks filled with a lunchbox, water bottle, library bag and one of every item on the school booklist, so kids can start the school year with the essentials they need, giving them an equal opportunity to learn.

“It wasn’t something that we were looking at doing when we first commenced,” Vicky explained.

“But in 2020, we were asked for school backpacks for 220 children and now we’re doing 17,500.

“What we didn’t know with Back-to-School was these children are avoiding going to school for the first three weeks so they don’t suffer the embarrassment of not having anything."

“By not attending school for the first three weeks, they don’t form the friendship bonds and if you don’t have the friendship bonds, then your attendance rate goes down.”

MinRes’ partnership

MinRes has supported Dandelions WA since 2023, contributing to the cost of renting their Malaga headquarters - dubbed the Kindness Kubby - giving them a base to continue their important work.

The partnership is also strongly supported by MinRes staff, with 57 employees donating their time to help pack 3,800 backpacks across 285 hours of volunteering in the past year.

MinRes Manager Partnerships Kasey Sandstrom said the relationship with Dandelions WA was helping provide practical support to people in need across the State.

"At MinRes, we believe meaningful support goes beyond financial contributions,” Kasey said.

“We're committed to supporting organisations that create lasting, practical change for Western Australians who need it most. Seeing our people volunteer hundreds of hours alongside the Dandelions WA team makes this partnership even more special.

“We're looking forward to rolling up our sleeves to pack more schoolbags to help Dandelions WA reach more kids across the state.”
