Festive support through Christmas charity donations

Published on 21 December 2023

We have thrown our support behind charities caring for vulnerable Western Australians and women experiencing family and domestic violence this Christmas.

As part of our Christmas Giving program, this month we donated $300,000 to 37 charities, including $136,000 to 15 family and domestic violence refuges.

MinRes Company Secretary Jenna Mazza said: “While Christmas is meant to be a time of joy, many people experience isolation, financial pressure or family conflict. Through our Christmas Giving program, we are determined to help.

“Since the launch of the program in 2018, MinRes has donated $1.3 million to charities across WA. We are proud to support charities that are making such a difference to the lives of WA’s most vulnerable people.”

Recipients of the donations include Hannah’s House, which is headquartered in the City of Stirling and provides dedicated pediatric support for children and young people who face life-limiting conditions.

In addition to supporting a free play therapy program at Hannah’s House, we donated $5,000 to help the charity host a Family Christmas Party at Rayment Park in Lathlain.

Hannah’s House Chief Executive Officer Jonine Collins said: “Some of our parents are uncertain about the time they will have with their child, so occasions like these take on profound importance.

“We received feedback from parents saying how grateful they were for the opportunity to momentarily set aside the challenges of caring for a child with complex health needs and enjoy the festive season.”

Peel Community Kitchen serves about 1,000 meals per week to approximately 400 people, including those struggling with homelessness and the rising cost-of-living.

We donated $5,000 to help the charity host a Christmas lunch for about 130 disadvantaged members of the local community at their premises on Tuart Avenue in Mandurah.

Peel Community Kitchen Coordinator Tracey Bain said: “Christmas can be a lonely time for people, particularly those who are struggling financially. That’s why it’s so important to offer compassion and companionship at this time of year.”

The CREW Rockingham also received a $4,000 donation to help the charity meet the growing demand for hot meals, food hampers and clothing and shelter in the Rockingham and Kwinana areas.

Other recipients in Perth included Zonta House, Starick, Stirling Women’s Refuge, Ruah, Lucy Saw, Perth Homeless Support Group, Ronald McDonald House, Dandelions WA, St John of God Horizon House, Mission Australia, Nardine Wimmin’s Refuge, Orana House, OVIS, Kira House and the Patricia Giles Centre for Non-Violence.

In the regions, recipients included the Salvation Army Karratha Women’s Refuge, Hedland Women’s Refuge, Newman Women’s Shelter, the Nintirri Centre in Tom Price, Goldfields Individual and Family Support Association, Goldfields Youth Rehabilitation Centre and the Bloodwood Tree Association in Port Hedland.
