MinRes mourns the passing of Tim Picton

Mineral Resources (MinRes) is saddened by the tragic passing of Director Strategy Tim Picton.

Published on 19 January 2026

Tim joined MinRes in 2022 following a distinguished career in senior political and government roles across Australia and made an immediate impact working alongside senior leaders, current and prospective partners, and government, industry and community stakeholders.

His extensive industry knowledge and acumen helped drive significant MinRes projects, partnerships and transactions, which have strengthened the company and delivered positive outcomes for its people, partners and communities.

Managing Director Chris Ellison expressed profound sadness at Tim’s passing and extended heartfelt condolences to his family on behalf of everyone at MinRes.

“Tim was an exceptionally talented and dedicated leader whose enthusiasm, drive and brilliant mind will leave a lasting legacy at MinRes,” Ellison said.

“He inspired those around him and his loss will be devastating for colleagues across our business.

“Tim was a trusted colleague and a friend whose insight and advice I valued greatly. His loss is deeply felt and I will miss him enormously.”

Tim was also a much-loved father, husband, brother and son. His family has been moved by the outpouring of love and respect from friends, colleagues and associates.

His loss will be felt heavily not just at MinRes, but across WA and broader Australia – where Tim’s talent, kindness and humour underpinned deep professional networks and strong friendships.
